CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC MANUAL
Spastic paraparesis is a condition characterised by progressive weakness and stiffness in the muscles of the lower limbs due to an impairment of the motor nerve pathways in the spinal cord. This condition may result from various pathologies that compress, injure, or otherwise affect the spinal cord and its surrounding structures.
Spasticity is a clinical sign manifested by increased muscle tone and exaggerated tendon reflexes. Identifying the underlying cause of spastic paraparesis is crucial for appropriate treatment and improving the patient’s mobility and quality of life.
