Diagnostic Tests

Pyelonephritis

Bacterial infection of the kidney, ascending from the bladder.

Left upper quadrant pain, fever, chills, lower back pain, dysuria, frequent urination.

Urinalysis (leukocyturia), cultures (identification of the infectious agent), renal ultrasound (inflammatory changes).

Splenic Rupture

Trauma or diseases leading to splenic enlargement, such as infectious mononucleosis.

Left upper quadrant pain, referred shoulder pain, tachycardia, hypotension, shock symptoms in severe cases.

Abdominal ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) scan to assess splenic integrity.

Splenic Infarction

Occlusion of splenic vessels, usually due to emboli or thrombi.

Acute, severe left upper quadrant pain, fever, shock symptoms in advanced cases.

Contrast-enhanced abdominal CT (areas of splenic infarction), blood tests (platelet count, coagulopathy indicators).
