Vasculitic Nodules on the Fingers

Vasculitic nodules on the fingers are manifestations of inflammation in small blood vessels (capillaries, arterioles, and venules). They can be signs of various systemic diseases and are commonly seen in conditions involving vasculitis or systemic inflammatory processes.

Pathology

Diagnosis of Suspicion

Diagnosis of Confirmation

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Arthritis symptoms, skin rash, photosensitivity, oral ulcers

Positive ANA and at least 4 of the 11 ACR criteria (anti-nuclear antibodies), which may include specific serology and clinical signs

Subacute Bacterial Endocarditis

Fever, new or changing heart murmur, constitutional symptoms like fatigue and weight loss

Positive blood cultures and echocardiogram showing evidence of vegetations on the heart valves
